Day 3 of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 delivered a series of one-sided contests as Scotland, Zimbabwe, and South Africa registered dominant victories, reshaping the points table across multiple groups. The day featured three matches across India and Sri Lanka, with teams aiming to gain early momentum in the group stage of the global tournament.
The opening fixture saw Scotland face Italy at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Scotland bounced back strongly from their opening-day loss to the West Indies, riding on a commanding batting display from George Munsey, who struck 84 off 54 balls. The bowlers then took charge, with Michael Leask claiming figures of 4/17, as Italy was comprehensively beaten by 73 runs, handing Scotland their first points of the campaign.
In Colombo, Zimbabwe began their World Cup journey in emphatic fashion against Oman. Zimbabwe’s fast bowlers Richard Ngarava, Blessing Muzarabani, and Brad Evans shared nine wickets between them to bundle Oman out for just 103. Brian Bennett’s unbeaten 48 ensured a comfortable chase, with Zimbabwe reaching the target in just 13.3 overs to secure an eight-wicket victory and a significant boost to their net run rate.

The final match of the day took place in Ahmedabad, where South Africa overpowered Canada. The South African captain led from the front with a brisk 59 off 32 balls, supported by Ryan Rickelton, David Miller, and Tristan Stubbs. The 2024 finalists posted 213/4, the highest total of the tournament so far. Despite a fighting half-century from Navneet Dhaliwal, Canada was bowled out, conceding a heavy defeat.
At the end of Day 3, South Africa sits atop Group D alongside New Zealand, while Zimbabwe leads Group B on net run rate. In Group C, the West Indies remain ahead, with Scotland moving into contention after their win. Group A is currently led by India and Pakistan. The tournament continues on Day 4 with matches between Namibia and the Netherlands in New Delhi, Australia versus Ireland in Colombo, and a high-profile clash between England and the West Indies in Mumbai.
