Sneh Rana Promises India Will Finally Lift The Women’s World Cup

India’s women’s team targets maiden ODI World Cup win at home.

Indian spin bowling all-rounder Sneh Rana expressed confidence in the women’s cricket team’s mission to win the ODI World Cup, set to commence on September 30 in Guwahati, where co-hosts India will face Sri Lanka in the opening match.

Rana acknowledged the challenges of competing on home soil but emphasized the team’s determination to secure the coveted trophy, a first for India. “It’s going to be interesting and challenging, especially since we are going to play at home. It’s a special feeling. And it’s even more special for Harman didi (Harmanpreet Kaur), as she’s been playing cricket for so many years now. Our aim is to fill the trophy cabinet with a World Cup,” she said.

Senior all-rounder Deepti Sharma highlighted the significance of the tournament for head coach Amol Muzumdar, marking his first World Cup in the role. “Whenever we play a bilateral series, the World Cup trophy keeps coming to our mind, and this is Amol Muzumdar sir’s first World Cup, so it’s important and special,” Deepti noted. She also expressed excitement about performing before a large home crowd, anticipating a memorable campaign.

Both Rana and wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosh credited the Women’s Premier League (WPL) for enhancing their skills through exposure to international talent. “It gives us the stage to play alongside and against top-class players from around the world. You also get to learn from elite foreign coaches, their strategies, how they think, and how they react in key moments,” Rana explained. Ghosh added, “Playing with overseas players also helps a lot. Their plans and strategies are very different, and knowing that gives me an advantage.”
