RCB Target Batting Revival Against MI To Break Losing Streak In IPL 2026
RCB aim to fix batting issues against MI after consecutive losses in IPL 2026 contest.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru will look to rediscover their batting rhythm when they take on Mumbai Indians on Sunday, aiming to end a two-match losing streak and steady their IPL campaign at a crucial stage of the season. Despite a strong start that saw them win four of their first five games, RCB have recently slipped into a mid-season wobble, losing three of their last five matches.
The Bengaluru franchise currently sits third on the points table with 12 points from 10 matches, still well-placed for a playoff berth. However, the tightening race at the top has added pressure, with Rajasthan Royals and Gujarat Titans also level on 12 points and poised to overtake RCB depending on the outcome of their clash in Jaipur. The shifting table dynamics have made every remaining fixture increasingly significant for the defending champions.
Much of RCB’s recent struggle has stemmed from inconsistent batting performances. On a sluggish Ahmedabad surface against Gujarat Titans, they were restricted to a below-par total of 155, while a nine-run DLS defeat to Lucknow Super Giants exposed their inability to close out a chase despite needing 19 runs in the final over. The dip in batting fluency has raised concerns about momentum heading into the business end of the tournament.

The concerns are compounded by underwhelming form from key batters. Replacement opener Jacob Bethell, who stepped in for the injured Phil Salt, has managed scores of 14, 20, 5 and 4, failing to provide the explosive starts RCB have relied on. Wicketkeeper-batter Jitesh Sharma has also struggled for impact, with a season-high of just 23, leaving veteran Virat Kohli to shoulder a disproportionate share of the scoring responsibility.
While RCB search for answers, Mumbai Indians arrive with renewed confidence after a dominant chase of 228 against Lucknow Super Giants. Rohit Sharma’s return from injury, marked by a blistering 84 off 44 balls, has boosted their top order, while Ryan Rickelton has provided solid support at the top.
However, their momentum will be tested against RCB’s new-ball attack led by Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Josh Hazlewood.All-rounder Hardik Pandya’s availability remains uncertain after he missed the previous match due to back spasms, though he has travelled to Raipur. With Suryakumar Yadav having led in his absence, MI will make a late assessment on Pandya’s fitness before finalising their playing XI for a high-stakes encounter.
