PV Sindhu Ninth Seed, Satwik-Chirag Fifth At BWF World Championships

Two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu has been awarded the ninth seed in women’s singles, while India’s leading men’s doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty has received the fifth seed for the upcoming BWF World Championships. The prestigious badminton tournament will be held at the Indira Gandhi Stadium in New Delhi from August 17 to August 23.

Sindhu enters the tournament as the current Japan Open champion and will aim to add another major title to her decorated career. The Indian women’s singles player has previously won medals at multiple global events, including two Olympic medals, and remains one of the country’s most recognised badminton stars on the international circuit.

Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, the 2022 Asian Games gold medallists, have been placed fifth in the men’s doubles seedings. The pair will look to continue their strong performances at the highest level after establishing themselves among the world’s top doubles combinations. India will have two entries in each of the five categories at the championships.

Apart from Sindhu and the Satwik-Chirag duo, former world championships bronze medallist Lakshya Sen has been seeded 14th in men’s singles. The mixed doubles team of Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto has also secured a seeded position, being placed 15th in the category.

The players qualified for the world championships based on their international rankings as of April 28, 2026, while the seedings were determined according to rankings updated on July 28, 2026. The official draw for the tournament is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, with possible changes expected if any seeded players withdraw before the event begins.

China’s Shi Yuqi, the reigning men’s singles world champion, has been named the top seed in his category, while South Korea’s An Se Young leads the women’s singles seeding list. Japan’s Akane Yamaguchi is seeded second in women’s singles, while South Korea’s Kim Won Ho and Seo Seung Jae top the men’s doubles seedings. China’s Liu Sheng Shu and Tan Ning lead women’s doubles, and Feng Yan Zhe and Huang Dong Ping are the top seeds in mixed doubles.
