Pakistan Pulls Out of Asia Cup Hockey: Bangladesh Set to Steal the Spotlight!
Pakistan likely to skip Asia Cup Hockey; Bangladesh may step in as replacement.
The Men’s Asia Cup hockey tournament, scheduled to commence on August 29 in Rajgir, Bihar, faces a significant change as Bangladesh is likely to replace Pakistan in the eight-team event, according to a senior Hockey India official. The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has expressed reluctance to participate, citing security concerns, despite assurances from the Indian government to provide visas for Pakistani players.
The uncertainty surrounding Pakistan’s participation stems from heightened tensions following the Pahalgam terror attack, which prompted India to launch Operation Sindoor targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan. The PHF proposed relocating the tournament to a neutral venue, but organizers have maintained their commitment to hosting the event in Rajgir’s newly developed hockey stadium.
With Pakistan’s confirmation still pending, Hockey India has proactively invited Bangladesh to fill the vacancy, though a final decision is expected within the next 48 hours. “Neither Pakistan nor Bangladesh have confirmed anything yet, but Bangladesh is the likely replacement,” the Hockey India official told PTI, emphasizing that the Indian government’s visa offer remains open.
