NRAI Marks 75 Years With Focus On Shooting League Of India And Growth Plans

Shooting League of India highlighted in NRAI 75-year vision

The National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) has placed the Shooting League of India (SLI) at the centre of its long-term roadmap as it marked its 75th foundation anniversary, unveiling an expanded vision to modernise and commercialise Indian shooting sports. The initiative was highlighted during a commemorative event attended by Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya and senior sports officials.

The NRAI used the milestone occasion to reiterate its ambition of transforming shooting into a more mainstream spectator sport through the Shooting League of India, a franchise-based competition designed to bring global and domestic athletes together. The league is seen as a key step in expanding the sport’s visibility and creating a structured professional ecosystem.

Alongside the league push, the federation also unveiled a special 75-year commemorative logo and announced a nationwide grassroots programme aimed at introducing 7.5 lakh school and college students to shooting ahead of the 2028 Olympics. The initiative includes a “10-shot experience” designed to identify and nurture young talent across India.

NRAI officials emphasised that the Shooting League of India will play a central role in bridging elite competition with grassroots development, positioning it as a platform to increase fan engagement and provide athletes with more competitive exposure. The league, already backed as India’s first franchise-based shooting competition, is designed to follow a mixed-team format featuring both Indian and international shooters.

Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya praised the initiative, stating that structured leagues, digital tools, and grassroots outreach would strengthen India’s sporting ecosystem and help the country emerge as a leading sporting nation in the coming years.

With the Shooting League of India forming a core pillar of NRAI’s long-term strategy, the federation’s 75-year milestone signals a shift toward greater professionalisation, wider participation, and increased global competitiveness for Indian shooting sports.
