Neeraj Chopra Faces Arshad Nadeem in Javelin Showdown at Tokyo Worlds
Neeraj Chopra set for epic javelin clash with Arshad Nadeem at World Championships in Tokyo.
The stage is set for a thrilling clash at the World Athletics Championships 2025 in Tokyo, where Pakistan’s Paris 2024 Olympic gold medallist Arshad Nadeem will face off against India’s defending champion Neeraj Chopra in the men’s javelin throw. Scheduled from September 13 to 21, with qualifications on September 17 and the final on September 18 at Japan National Stadium, this marks their first head-to-head since Nadeem’s record-breaking 92.97m throw clinched Olympic gold in Paris. Neeraj, who won gold at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, aims to defend his world title from Budapest 2023, where Nadeem secured silver.
Nadeem, sidelined earlier this year by a right calf surgery in England, missed the Silesia Diamond League in August, making his return all the more anticipated. His sole competition since Paris was a gold-medal-winning 86.40m throw at the Asian Athletics Championships in Gumi, Republic of Korea, in May 2025. Neeraj, meanwhile, has maintained consistent form, leveraging his experience at Japan National Stadium, the site of his historic Olympic triumph. The rivalry, steeped in mutual respect, has captivated fans, with both athletes pushing the boundaries of javelin excellence.
The men’s javelin event will also feature formidable competitors, including Germany’s Julian Weber, fresh off a Diamond League victory, Grenada’s two-time world champion Anderson Peters, and Trinidad and Tobago’s former Olympic champion Keshorn Walcott. As anticipation builds for this high-stakes encounter, the Tokyo Championships promise to showcase a battle of skill, resilience, and legacy between two of South Asia’s brightest sporting stars.
