National Boxing Championships: Hussamuddin, Zareen, Borgohain Claim Gold
Stars shine as Services dominate National Boxing Championships in Greater Noida.
World Championships bronze medallist Mohammed Hussamuddin staged a remarkable comeback from injury to claim the 60kg gold medal at the National Boxing Championships in Greater Noida on Saturday. In a thrilling final, the 31-year-old Services boxer narrowly defeated defending champion Sachin Siwach by a 3-2 split decision, overturning an early deficit through superior ring control and precise combinations. The victory proved especially emotional for Hussamuddin, who described it as vital proof of his recovery ahead of a busy international calendar.
Services Sports Control Board asserted its supremacy by topping the medals table with an impressive 12 gold medals, including nine in the men's categories. Standout performances included Jadumani Singh, who was named best male boxer after winning the 55kg title, and Aditya Pratap, who pulled off a major upset by beating defending champion Abhinash Jamwal in the 65kg final. These results underscored Services' depth and consistency across weight divisions.
In the women's competition, two-time world medallist Nikhat Zareen secured her third National Championships title in the 51kg category, outclassing 2023 world champion Nitu Ghanghas by unanimous decision. Tokyo Olympic bronze medallist Lovlina Borgohain delivered a commanding performance in the 75kg final, defeating Railways' Sanamacha Chanu 5-0. Both victories mark strong starts for the star boxers in 2026, boosting confidence ahead of major events like the Commonwealth Games and Asian Games.
