Mourinho does Mourinho Things, it’s Again Silly, Funny & Wrong
Fenerbahce manager is in trouble for pinching the the nose of his rival manager in an ill-tempered Turkish Cup match
Once an enfant terrible always an enfant terrible.
That is what the irrepressible Jose Mourinho is. The maverick manager of Fenerbahçe has once again hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons.
After a fiery Turkish Cup quarter-final against Galatasaray (Istanbul Derby), which his team lost 2-1, Mourinho was involved in an unusual incident where he pinched the nose of Galatasaray's manager, Okan Buruk, from behind. This bizarre act led to the latter falling to the ground dramatically, clutching his face.
Buruk was later quoted as saying: "He squeezed my nose from behind while I was going on. There was a slight scratch. I won’t exaggerate about it, but it’s not a very stylish thing."
The match itself was reportedly chaotic, with three players sent off and police intervention required to restore order. Mourinho's actions inevitably have sparked widespread condemnation, with Galatasaray's vice president calling it an attack on Turkish football. This incident adds to Mourinho's history of controversial moments, including accusations of racism earlier this year. Mourinho was accused by Galatasaray of making racist comments after another match involving the Istanbul rivals. Galatasaray had taken offence to the former Real Madrid, Manchester United and Chelsea manager’s words that the opposition bench was 'jumping around like monkeys. He received a four-match suspension, which was later reduced to two-match for his unruly ways.'
Mourinho, during his time at Real Madrid, was involved in the infamous eye-poke incident. This was in 2011, when Mourinho was Real Madrid's manager, and he received a two-match ban for poking Barcelona assistant coach Tito Vilanova in the eye.
All said and done, Mourinho's latest transgression is likely to result in severe repercussions from both his club and the Turkish football association.
