Mbappe Writes Emotional Letter to Fans After France's World Cup Exit

France captain Kylian Mbappe has penned an emotional message to supporters following his country's disappointing end to the 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign, admitting that the pain of missing out on the trophy "will continue to hurt for a while." The striker shared the heartfelt letter days after France's semi-final defeat to Spain and subsequent loss to England in the third-place playoff. While Mbappe finished the tournament as its leading scorer and achieved a historic personal milestone, he acknowledged that individual success could not compensate for failing to win the World Cup.

France entered the tournament as one of the favourites and enjoyed a strong run through both the group stage and knockout rounds. However, their hopes of lifting a second World Cup in eight years ended with a 2-0 defeat to Spain in the semi-finals before they were beaten 6-4 by England in the third-place match.
