Dembele Reflects On Growing Confidence After France's Semi-Final Berth
Dembele reflects on his form as France eye historic third final.
Ousmane Dembele expressed satisfaction with his performance after scoring in France’s victory over Morocco and helping the two-time champions reach the semifinals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The French forward said he is gaining confidence and momentum as the tournament progresses, although he admitted he could still improve his individual performances.
Dembele said he feels comfortable in his current position, having played a similar role for both France and Paris Saint-Germain. The 29-year-old stressed that the team’s objectives remain more important than individual achievements as France continue their pursuit of another World Cup title. He added that the squad is focused on going as far as possible in the tournament.
Kylian Mbappe and Dembele played decisive roles in France’s quarterfinal victory at Boston Stadium. France dominated possession for long periods and were awarded a penalty in the first half after Noussair Mazraoui brought down Mbappe inside the area. However, Morocco goalkeeper Yassine Bounou produced an impressive save to deny the France captain and keep the match goalless at halftime.

France eventually broke the deadlock on the hour mark when Mbappe curled a powerful effort into the far corner from the edge of the penalty area. The goal was his eighth of the tournament and allowed France to take control of the contest after Morocco had resisted their pressure throughout the opening hour.
Mbappe later turned provider, delivering a clever pass into the path of Dembele, who calmly finished into the bottom corner to double France’s advantage. The strike was Dembele’s fifth goal of the tournament and capped another influential performance as he continued to build momentum during France’s World Cup campaign.
Didier Deschamps’ side managed the closing stages comfortably to secure a third consecutive World Cup semifinal appearance, following their title-winning campaign in 2018 and runners-up finish in 2022. France will next face the winner of the quarterfinal between Spain and Belgium as they continue their attempt to reach a third straight World Cup final.
