Legends Faceoff! Team for El Clasico Clash in Mumbai Unveiled
The faceoff between FC Barcelona Legends and Real Madrid Legends will happen at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on April 6, 2025
They may be stars of yesteryear. But names like Carles Puyol, Xavi Hernández, Luís Figo, and Michael Owen will set most football fans' hearts aflutter.
These iconic players of Barcelona FC and Real Madrid, who had set alight many El Clasico clashes, would be seen in action in Mumbai as part of the legends faceoff. FC Barcelona Legends and Real Madrid Legends would clash swords at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on April 6, 2025.
The 'Legends Faceoff', organised by The Sports Front, a global sports marketing firm, is expected to be one of the biggest football spectacles in India in recent times. The squads were announced today. John Zaidi, CEO & Co-Founder of The Sports Front, has been quoted as saying: "The ‘Legends Faceoff’ has captured the imagination of fans. Now that the full squads are revealed, excitement is at an all-time high. We are committed to making this a world-class experience for Indian football lovers."
Aside from the names mentioned earlier, well-known names like Rivaldo, and Patrick Kluivert for Barcelona, while Fernando Morientes, and Christian Karembeu will add glitz to the event.
"The ‘Legends Faceoff’ is going to be special. I’ve never played in India before, and I can’t wait to experience the energy of the fans here," Puyol said at the pre-match announcement today.
Xavi Hernández, for his part, said: "Barcelona vs. Real Madrid is football’s greatest rivalry, and this match will bring back all the passion and excitement."
Luís Figo, the Madrid captain said: "Football’s popularity in India is growing every day. It’s an honour to bring this legendary rivalry to Mumbai. This is going to be unforgettable." Veteran Michael Owen said: "I’ve heard so much about India’s football culture, and I’m thrilled to be part of this historic event."
