Lakshya Sen Enters Australian Open Badminton Final with Thrilling Comeback

Lakshya Sen rallies from behind to reach Australian Open men’s singles final.

Indian Badminton Star Lakshya Sen showcased impressive mental toughness and skill to reach the men’s singles final of the Australian Open Super 500 with a hard-fought three-game victory over world No. 6 Chou Tien Chen of Chinese Taipei. After dropping the first game 17-21, Sen fought back to win 24-22 and sealed the match with a convincing 21-16 scoreline in an intense 86-minute semifinal clash at Sydney Olympic Park on Saturday.

The match began with Chen dominating, as his precise shot selection and aggressive play earned him an early lead and the opening game. Despite a slow start and some unforced errors, Lakshya’s resilience came to the fore in the second game, where he leveled the score after saving multiple game points in a nail-biting finish at 24-22. The momentum fully swung in his favor as he entered the final game determined to close out the match.

Sen’s superior fitness and sharper court coverage were evident in the decider against the 35-year-old Chen, who showed signs of fatigue. Lakshya wasted no time building a commanding lead, reaching 11-6 at the interval and steadily extending it to 17-9. His precise smashes, net play, and tactical shot placement overwhelmed Chen, allowing Sen to clinch the match and book his place in Sunday’s final.

This victory marks Sen’s second major final appearance this season, following his runner-up finish at the Hong Kong Open earlier this year. The 24-year-old will next face either Japan’s Yushi Tanaka or Chinese Taipei’s Lin Chun-Yi, with high hopes of capturing his first Super 500 title. His road to the final has been noted for both consistency and composure under pressure, making him India’s leading men’s singles contender in badminton this year.

Lakshya’s triumph keeps India’s hopes alive in the tournament after the early exit of other top seeds. Celebrating courtside with his father and coach DK Sen, Lakshya’s performance reflects his growing stature on the international stage and his potential to win big titles in the near future.
