Joshua Attends Chisora vs Wilder Bout at O2 Arena in First Outing Since December Car Crash
Joshua attends Chisora's farewell bout, his first appearance since the fatal Nigeria crash.
Anthony Joshua made his first public appearance since surviving a tragic car crash in Nigeria that claimed the lives of his close friends Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele. The former world heavyweight champion had remained out of the spotlight since the December 29 accident, maintaining a low profile during the recovery period.
Joshua was spotted at the The O2 Arena on Saturday, attending a high-profile boxing event. Dressed in a white tracksuit, he arrived alongside promoter Eddie Hearn and was seen walking into the arena amid significant media attention, marking his return to public life after months of absence.
The British boxer watched ringside as Derek Chisora competed in the 50th and final fight of his career against Deontay Wilder. Despite the high-profile setting, there was a noticeable moment when Wilder passed Joshua in a corridor without acknowledging him, reflecting the long-standing rivalry and missed opportunities for a blockbuster clash between the two fighters.

Joshua last stepped into the ring before Christmas, facing Jake Paul in Miami. However, questions remain about his next move in boxing, with speculation continuing around a potential showdown with British rival Tyson Fury. Promoter Hearn has indicated that Joshua will need time to recover emotionally before making any decisions about his return to competition.
Speaking briefly during a ringside interview, Joshua expressed his enthusiasm for the sport, saying, “It’s amazing to be here. Boxing, especially British boxing, is booming.” He also showed support for Chisora, adding, “I’m rocking with Derek regardless, so I’m Team Chisora.” His appearance signals a gradual return to normalcy, even as he continues to process the personal loss.
