IPL 2026: RCB Suffer Rs 11.5 Crore Blow as GT Debut Rs 7 Crore Signing

IPL 2026 sees RCB bowl first amid injury setback and GT debut changes in Bengaluru clash

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Gujarat Titans (GT) locked horns in an IPL 2026 clash at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, with both sides making key changes to their playing XIs ahead of the contest. The match drew significant attention due to late injury setbacks and high-value player adjustments on both sides.

RCB captain Rajat Patidar won the toss and opted to bowl first, looking to exploit early conditions at the Chinnaswamy surface. The decision came as part of a tactical approach to restrict GT in the first innings and chase under lights. However, RCB faced an early setback with Phil Salt ruled out due to a late injury concern, despite being retained for ₹11.5 crore after a strong run of form earlier in the season.

In Salt’s absence, Jacob Bethell was handed his first appearance of the season for RCB. The young player was brought in to strengthen the batting lineup and provide flexibility in the middle order. The change was one of the key talking points ahead of the match, as RCB adjusted their combinations to cope with the unexpected injury blow.

Gujarat Titans also made notable changes to their squad, introducing Jason Holder into the playing XI after acquiring him for ₹7 crore. The experienced all-rounder was given his debut for GT in this match, adding depth to both their bowling and lower-order batting. Alongside him, young spinner Manav Suthar was also included, signalling GT’s intent to explore fresh talent in a high-pressure fixture.

With both teams making strategic alterations and high-profile players missing or debuting, the match carried added intrigue beyond the contest itself. While RCB aimed to recover from the absence of a key overseas batter, GT looked to balance experience and youth in their lineup. The encounter at the Chinnaswamy Stadium set the stage for a closely watched battle as IPL 2026 action continued to build momentum.
