India’s PV Sindhu, Lakshya Sen Register Straight-Game Wins At Singapore Open
PV Sindhu and Lakshya Sen advanced comfortably in Singapore Open 2026 matches.
India’s top badminton stars continued their impressive run at the Singapore Open 2026 on Thursday, with PV Sindhu, Lakshya Sen, men’s doubles pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, and mixed doubles duo Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto all advancing to the quarterfinals of the tournament.
Two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu produced a dominant performance against Japan’s Riko Gunji, securing a straight-games victory in just 37 minutes. Sindhu maintained control throughout the contest and dictated the pace from the opening exchanges in both games. The Indian shuttler now faces a major challenge in the quarterfinals, where she is set to take on top seed and world number one An Se-young.
Lakshya Sen also progressed to the men’s singles quarterfinals under unusual circumstances after Thailand’s Kunlavut Vitidsarn retired from the match with only two points played. The Indian shuttler advanced without being tested extensively and will next face Japan’s Koki Watanabe in the last-eight stage.

In men’s doubles, fourth-seeded Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty overcame a tough challenge from Chinese Taipei’s Lee Jhe-Huei and Yang Po-Hsuan in a three-game contest. The Indian pair took the opening game 21-15 before losing momentum in the second, which they dropped 11-21. However, Satwik and Chirag recovered strongly in the decider to seal a 21-18 victory and extend their unbeaten head-to-head record against the Taiwanese pair to 7-0.
The Indian duo will next face Malaysia’s Kang Khai Xing and Aaron Tai in the quarterfinals. The encounter is expected to carry added significance as the Malaysian pair had defeated Satwik and Chirag during the All England Open campaign earlier this year.
In mixed doubles, Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto staged an impressive comeback after losing the opening game heavily against Japan’s Yuta Watanabe and Maya Taguchi. The Indian pair recovered to win the next two games 21-17 and 21-16, booking their place in the quarterfinals. They are now set for a difficult clash against the third-seeded Malaysian combination of Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei.
