India’s Hockey Stars Gear Up for Asia Cup

Indian hockey team prepares for Asia Cup in Australia.

Indian men’s hockey team captain Harmanpreet Singh is brimming with confidence as his squad heads to Australia for a high-stakes four-match series against the world-class Australian team. The matches, set for August 15 to 21 at Perth Hockey Stadium, are a critical stepping stone for India’s campaign at the Asia Cup, which doubles as a World Cup qualifier, starting August 29 in Rajgir.

“Taking on Australia in their backyard is the ultimate test,” Harmanpreet said before the team’s departure from Bengaluru. “This series is a cornerstone of our Asia Cup preparations. It’s about sharpening our skills, building team chemistry, and gaining momentum against one of the best teams in the world.”

The tour offers India a chance to fine-tune strategies and assess player form against a top-ranked opponent. With a mix of seasoned veterans and rising stars, the squad aims to identify and address weaknesses before the continental showdown. The coaching staff, led by chief coach Craig Fulton, will use these matches to finalize combinations for the Asia Cup, where a victory secures a direct berth to the World Cup.
