Indian Pacer Kranti Goud Shines With 3/20 Against Pakistan, Targets Higher Pace
Kranti Goud started with a fiery 3/20 against Pakistan, vowing to add even more pace.
Emerging Indian fast bowler Kranti Goud, who has rapidly become a key asset in the national women's cricket team since her debut earlier this year, expressed her ambition to increase her bowling pace following a standout performance in the Women's ODI World Cup. The 20-year-old from Madhya Pradesh's Bundelkhand region delivered figures of 3 for 20 in 10 overs, including three maidens, to help India secure an 88-run victory over arch-rivals Pakistan on Sunday at the R. Premadasa Stadium.
Goud's disciplined spell derailed Pakistan's chase of 247, dismissing opener Sadaf Shamas with her first delivery and later claiming Aliya Riaz through a tactical fielding adjustment. The effort earned her the Player-of-the-Match award at the very venue where she made her international debut in May during a series against Sri Lanka. "My India debut was also in Sri Lanka, and today I'm the Player of the Match here. It's a proud moment for me and my family. I'm very happy," Goud said post-match, beaming with pride.
Discussing her development under India's bowling coach Aavishkar Salvi, Goud emphasised a focus on consistency over experimentation. "Right now, the bowling coach hasn't told me anything about my speed. 'Our focus is on maintaining a consistent line and length, not trying to do too much,' she noted. However, the young pacer revealed her personal goal: "I'm comfortable with my pace at the moment, but I want to bowl faster." Her performance highlighted her growing confidence, particularly in backing her instincts during the swinging conditions that favoured seam movement.

Goud's journey from a net bowler for the Mumbai Indians in the inaugural Women's Premier League last year to a World Cup star has been remarkable. Acquired by UP Warriorz for Rs 10 lakh at the WPL auction, she capitalised on injuries to senior pacers Renuka Thakur and Pooja Vastrakar. A breakout six-wicket haul in the third ODI against England in July propelled her into the spotlight, and she has since contributed significantly to India's campaign in the ongoing tournament co-hosted by Sri Lanka and India. As the team advances, Goud's blend of control and emerging aggression positions her as a vital weapon in the bowling attack.
