India vs Sri Lanka Semi-Final: Bumrah Strikes Twice, Sri Lanka Reel at 11/3
Ishan Kishan's unbeaten 80 set India's target of 170.
India moved into a strong position against Sri Lanka in the Asian Games 2026 men's cricket semi-final after Jasprit Bumrah struck twice in the opening over of Sri Lanka's chase. Sri Lanka were reduced to 11/3 after 1.5 overs while chasing India's target of 170, leaving them needing 159 runs from 109 balls. Bumrah finished his first over with two wickets, putting India in command early in the second innings.
India had earlier posted 169/7 in their allotted 20 overs after being sent in to bat. Ishan Kishan led the innings with an unbeaten 80 off 46 balls, hitting five sixes and four fours. His aggressive knock provided the main impetus to India's innings and helped the team recover from wickets falling at regular intervals.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi also made a valuable contribution at the top of the order, scoring 38 from 21 deliveries. His quick start gave India momentum before Sri Lanka fought back with wickets. Kishan then carried the innings through the middle and final overs, ensuring India finished with a competitive total of 169/7.

Sri Lanka's chase got off to a difficult start as Bumrah immediately made an impact with the ball. At 11/3 after 1.5 overs, Nuwanidu Fernando was unbeaten on 1 off 2 balls, while Sahan Arachchige had made 5 from four deliveries. Bumrah had figures of 2/1 from his opening over, while Axar Patel had bowled 0.5 overs for six runs.
Sri Lanka were required to maintain a scoring rate of 8.75 runs per over to reach the target after India's total of 169/7. The early loss of three wickets increased the pressure on the Sri Lankan batting lineup, with India holding the advantage as the chase entered its early stages.
The winner of the semi-final will advance to the men's cricket gold medal match against Pakistan on Saturday. With India having set Sri Lanka a target of 170 and Bumrah making an immediate impact, the match remained finely placed in the early stages of the Sri Lankan innings, with the result determining which team would compete for the Asian Games gold medal.
