India-Pakistan Hockey World Cup Match Sells Out Wagener Stadium Completely

India-Pakistan Hockey World Cup match sells out at Wagener Stadium.

The highly anticipated India-Pakistan clash at the Men's Hockey World Cup is set to be played before a packed Wagener Stadium on Wednesday, August 19, after tickets for the Pool D encounter sold out. The 10,000-capacity venue is expected to host a full house for one of international hockey's biggest rivalries. The strong demand has also highlighted the enthusiasm among Indian and Pakistani communities living in the Netherlands.

Tickets for the tournament were released in phases, with the first batch going on sale online in September 2025 and another phase launched in March 2026. Tamara Bouwmans, communication officer of the Royal Dutch Hockey Association, said demand for the India-Pakistan fixture was particularly strong. The ticketing system offered different options, with prices starting at 35 euros for selected South Stand tickets, while covered Main Stand day tickets and hospitality packages were available at higher prices.

The fixture has generated considerable excitement among fans who wanted to witness the rivalry on Dutch soil. Anjana Pabbi, an Indian-origin resident who has lived in the Netherlands for eight years, told PTI that she had hoped to attend the match with her family but could not secure tickets. The sell-out reflects the enduring appeal of the India-Pakistan rivalry, which routinely attracts attention beyond the sporting arena and draws large audiences whenever the two teams meet at major international tournaments.

Wagener Stadium has already witnessed strong crowds during the World Cup, particularly for matches involving hosts the Netherlands. Fans who were unable to obtain individual tickets for sold-out fixtures were offered half-day passes on certain tournament days, allowing them to watch other scheduled matches. However, the India-Pakistan encounter has emerged as one of the most sought-after games of the competition, with demand driven both by the sporting significance of the match and the large South Asian community in the Netherlands.

The clash also carries significant importance for both teams in the group stage. India and Pakistan have a long history of intense encounters in hockey, making every meeting between them a major attraction regardless of their position in the tournament. With the Wagener Stadium filled to capacity, the players will face an atmosphere expected to add another layer of intensity to an already high-profile Pool D contest.

The sold-out fixture underlines how strongly the India-Pakistan rivalry continues to resonate in world hockey. For supporters in the Netherlands, the match provides an opportunity to witness one of the sport's most historic rivalries in person, while for both teams it represents an important World Cup assignment. With 10,000 spectators expected inside the stadium, Wednesday's encounter is set to be one of the tournament's biggest crowd-pullers.
