India Outplayed China Throughout Uber Cup, But Lack Finishing Touch in 5-0 Whitewash
India loses 5-0 to China in Uber Cup despite competitive displays; finishing issues cost matches.
India pushed powerhouse China in several closely fought contests but failed to convert key moments into wins, suffering a 5-0 defeat in their Uber Cup tie on Tuesday. Despite the one-sided scoreline, the Indian team repeatedly challenged their higher-ranked opponents, only to fall short in finishing crucial rallies and closing out promising positions.
The biggest chance came in the opening singles, where PV Sindhu tested World No. 2 Wang Zhi Yi with an aggressive and composed display. Sindhu built strong leads in multiple phases of the match, including commanding advantages in the opening passages, but could not sustain momentum at decisive moments. Wang used her experience and composure to recover, eventually sealing the contest and giving China an early lead in the tie.
India’s younger players also showed promise against elite opposition. Isharani Baruah faced former Olympic champion Chen Yufei and produced spirited resistance, while Devika Sihag and the doubles pair of Tanisha Crasto and Kavipriya Selvam created opportunities in their respective matches. However, none of the Indian players managed to convert pressure into winning finishes, allowing China to maintain control throughout the tie.

Across all five matches, the average duration of 54 minutes reflected how competitive many of the encounters were despite the clean sweep. The result underlined India’s growing depth and fighting ability but also exposed a recurring issue of game awareness and closing sharpness at the highest level. Coaches and analysts are likely to focus on decision-making under pressure, match management and finishing instincts as India looks to turn competitive performances into victories in future major team events.
