Heinrich Klaasen Says CSK Record Irrelevant Ahead Of SRH vs CSK Clash

Heinrich Klaasen has downplayed concerns over his underwhelming record against Chennai Super Kings ahead of IPL 2026, stating that his approach against their spin-heavy attack has simply not yielded results so far rather than reflecting a deeper issue in his game.

The Sunrisers Hyderabad wicketkeeper-batter will be a key figure when SRH take on CSK on April 18 during the tournament’s “Rivalry Week.” Despite his reputation as a destructive middle-order hitter, Klaasen has struggled against the Chennai-based franchise, scoring just 61 runs in five innings at an average of 15.25, with a modest strike rate of 96.82 and a highest score of 20.

Addressing the media ahead of the fixture, Klaasen acknowledged the challenge posed by Chennai’s traditionally spin-friendly conditions, particularly at their home ground, MA Chidambaram Stadium. He described it as “not the easiest place to play,” noting how the surface often assists slower bowlers, making stroke play difficult. However, he also pointed out that the absence of star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja this season has altered the team’s bowling dynamics.

Klaasen emphasized that his aggressive intent against spin remains unchanged, even if it has not always paid off. He explained that facing multiple spinners requires calculated risk-taking, and while those risks have not yet translated into big scores against CSK, he is confident that persistence will eventually bring success. “It is just about finding form and making sure I capitalize when I get it,” he said.

Encouragingly for SRH, Klaasen has been in strong touch this season. He has amassed 145 runs in his first three matches at an average of 48.33 and an impressive strike rate nearing 148, including two half-centuries. His current form makes him SRH’s leading run-scorer and one of the standout performers in the league so far.

With both teams eyeing crucial points in the early stages of the tournament, Klaasen’s form could prove decisive. While his past numbers against CSK remain modest, the South African believes that maintaining his attacking mindset and adapting to conditions will be key as he looks to make a bigger impact in one of the IPL’s most anticipated rivalries.
