The Indian junior women’s hockey team faced a narrow 2-3 defeat against Australia’s U21 side in a fiercely contested match at the National Hockey Centre on Friday. Despite a spirited comeback in the final quarter, a late goal by Australia sealed the victory, leaving India with a bittersweet performance. India staged a remarkable comeback in the fourth quarter. Lalthantluangi sparked hope by converting a penalty corner in the 47th minute, narrowing the gap to 1-2. Sonam then leveled the scoreline with a well-executed field goal in the 54th minute, igniting celebrations among the Indian contingent. However, Australia’s Sammy Love delivered the decisive blow, scoring through a penalty corner in the 59th minute, securing a 3-2 victory for the home team with just over a minute remaining.
Despite the loss, India’s late surge showcased their determination and potential. The match highlighted areas for improvement, particularly in defending set pieces, as Australia capitalized on penalty corners to clinch the game.
