Harbhajan Singh Nominated For BCCI Role Ahead Of Annual General Meeting
PCA nominates ex-spinner Harbhajan as BCCI prepares to fill top posts this month.
Former Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh is reportedly in contention for a position within the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), according to a report in The Indian Express. The Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) has nominated the 44-year-old cricketer as its representative for the BCCI's Annual General Meeting (AGM), scheduled for late September. The meeting will focus on filling key vacant posts, including president, vice-president, secretary, joint secretary, and treasurer.
Harbhajan, a Rajya Sabha member from the Aam Aadmi Party and former advisor to the PCA, brings extensive experience from his illustrious 17-year international career, where he claimed 417 Test wickets and 265 ODI scalps. The report suggests that BCCI elections may proceed as a formality following internal discussions, potentially paving the way for Harbhajan's appointment to one of the administrative roles. While no official confirmation has been issued, his nomination underscores his growing influence in cricket administration.
Several state associations have also announced their representatives. The Karnataka State Cricket Association nominated Raghuram Bhatt, the Mumbai Cricket Association selected Sanjay Naik, and the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association chose former IPL chairman Arun Dhumal. Uttar Pradesh's Rajeev Shukla, Saurashtra's Jaydev Shah, Baroda's Pranav Amin, and Tamil Nadu's secretary RI Palani complete the list of key nominees.

Recently, Harbhajan commented on the geopolitical sensitivities surrounding India-Pakistan cricket matches, particularly for the 2025 Asia Cup. Speaking at a Society magazine event, he noted, "The India-Pakistan match always comes in the limelight, but after Operation Sindoor, everyone said there should be no cricket and no business." He referenced skipping a match against Pakistan during the World Championship of Legends, highlighting the ongoing tensions. The BCCI's decisions at the AGM could shape Indian cricket's administrative landscape for the coming year.
