Former WWE Women’s Champion Says WWE Portrayed Her As A “Sex Symbol”
Former champion raises concerns over WWE’s portrayal of her.
Former WWE Women’s Champion Mandy Rose has criticised WWE over what she described as a double standard in how the company treated her public image. Rose said WWE benefited from presenting her as a “sex symbol” during her wrestling career, but objected when she sought to monetise her personal brand independently through FanTime.
Rose made the remarks during an interview with TMZ’s Inside The Ring, while reflecting on her WWE departure in December 2022. She was released by the company one day after losing the NXT Women’s Championship, with WWE taking issue with the nature of content she was sharing with subscribers on FanTime.
At the centre of Rose’s criticism is her belief that WWE commercially benefited from the sexualised image associated with her character. She questioned why she should not have been able to benefit from that same aspect of her personal brand after leaving the promotion. Her comments have renewed discussion around the boundaries between a wrestler’s WWE persona and their independent business activities.

Rose also spoke about the challenges of developing and managing a personal brand outside professional wrestling. She argued that operating a subscription-based platform involves considerably more work than simply hiring a manager or asking someone close to handle social media. According to Rose, building such a business requires significant involvement and is not something that suits everyone.
Since her WWE exit, Rose has focused on expanding her personal brand rather than returning to the company. Her departure became a widely discussed issue within wrestling, with fans and industry observers divided over WWE’s decision and Rose’s approach to monetising her audience outside the promotion. The dispute remains an important part of the conversation surrounding her post-WWE career.
