Former NBA Player Lamar Odom Faces Plea Deal In Las Vegas DUI Case
Lamar Odom reportedly heads toward DUI case resolution.
Former NBA star Lamar Odom is expected to enter a plea agreement in a driving under the influence (DUI) case in Las Vegas, according to his defence attorney. Odom, 46, was initially charged with DUI, speeding, and failure to stay within a driving lane following his arrest in January. He had pleaded not guilty in March, but his legal team now plans to resolve the case through a no-contest plea that would reduce the DUI charge to reckless driving.
According to attorney Michael Becker, Odom will accept the terms offered by the Clark County District Attorney’s Office without admitting guilt. The former basketball player was scheduled to appear for a bench trial at Las Vegas Justice Court, but the hearing was postponed to allow for a plea entry later this month. Becker said Odom is not expected to appear personally during the upcoming court proceeding. The Clark County District Attorney’s Office has not publicly commented on the matter.
The case dates back to January 17, when a Nevada State Police Highway Patrol trooper reportedly observed Odom speeding on a Las Vegas highway and changing lanes without using a turn signal. According to the arrest report, the trooper said Odom displayed signs including bloodshot eyes and the smell of marijuana after being stopped. Odom denied consuming alcohol and told authorities that a passenger in the vehicle had been smoking marijuana.

The arrest report further stated that Odom performed poorly during field sobriety tests, with the trooper noting that he allegedly had difficulty completing certain tasks and maintaining balance. Odom’s planned no-contest plea would allow the case to move forward without a formal admission of wrongdoing while resolving the original DUI allegations through a lesser reckless driving charge.
Odom had a successful 14-year NBA career, winning championships with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2009 and 2010. He also played for the Los Angeles Clippers, Miami Heat, and Dallas Mavericks during his professional career. Beyond basketball, Odom attracted significant media attention through his 2013 marriage to Khloé Kardashian, which was featured on the reality television series Keeping Up with the Kardashians.
The DUI case adds to a series of legal and personal challenges Odom has faced after his basketball career. In 2013, he was arrested for a DUI in Los Angeles and later pleaded no contest, receiving three years of probation. In 2015, he suffered a serious medical emergency while staying at a legal brothel in Nevada, an incident that received widespread media attention. Despite these challenges, Odom has continued to remain a prominent figure in sports and entertainment circles.
