Dempo Goa Challengers Complete UTT Season 7 League Phase Unbeaten After UP Win
Dempo Goa Challengers complete unbeaten UTT league phase
Dempo Goa Challengers completed a historic unbeaten league-stage campaign in the Ultimate Table Tennis (UTT) 2026 season after defeating UP Prometheans 10-5 on Wednesday. The victory capped a dominant run for the two-time champions, who won all six of their league matches to finish at the top of the standings and enter the semifinals as the only unbeaten team in the competition. The Goa-based franchise produced consistent performances throughout the league phase, defeating every opponent they faced with a combination of experience, skill and teamwork. Their latest win against UP Prometheans further underlined their superiority as they became the first team in UTT history to complete the league stage without suffering a defeat.
Goa began the contest in commanding fashion, with Spanish paddler Alvaro Robles giving the team an early advantage. Robles delivered a composed performance against Sudhanshu Grover, winning the match in straight games and setting the tone for the defending champions. Romanian star Bernadette Szocs then continued Goa’s strong start by overcoming Sayali Wani in a competitive encounter. Although Wani showed resilience and pushed Szocs during the match, the experienced international player maintained control during crucial moments to secure another important victory for Goa.
The reigning champions further strengthened their position in the mixed doubles event, where Szocs partnered with Abhinandh PB. The duo faced Ricardo Walther and Swastika Ghosh in a closely contested three-game battle. Despite pressure from their opponents, Szocs and Abhinandh held their nerve to claim the win and seal the tie for Goa. The victory also highlighted Goa’s impressive squad balance. While Robles and Szocs once again played key roles, the contribution of Abhinandh PB and other players throughout the league campaign proved crucial in maintaining their unbeaten record.

UP Prometheans, however, did not give up easily and attempted to fight back in the closing stages of the tie. Manav Thakkar and Yangzi Liu produced strong performances in the final matches, helping their team reduce the deficit and show their competitive spirit against the league leaders. Despite UP’s late resurgence, Goa’s early dominance had already created a significant advantage. The champions’ ability to secure crucial points at the start of the tie ensured that the comeback attempt was not enough to change the outcome.
Dempo Goa Challengers’ unbeaten league campaign marks one of the most remarkable achievements in UTT history. Their ability to perform consistently across men’s singles, women’s singles, mixed doubles and team events has made them the team to beat heading into the semifinal stage. The franchise, which has already lifted the UTT trophy twice, will now look to carry the same momentum into the knockout rounds. With their experienced international players in top form and their Indian contingent providing valuable support, Goa will be aiming to add another championship to their impressive record.
For UP Prometheans, the defeat brought their league campaign to an end, but their performances throughout the season showed their potential to challenge stronger opponents. Their fightback against Goa demonstrated the competitiveness of the tournament and the growing strength of teams across the league. As UTT 2026 moves towards the semifinals, Dempo Goa Challengers will enter the knockout stage with confidence after achieving a perfect league record. Their unbeaten journey has established them as the tournament favourites, but they will now face the challenge of maintaining their form when the pressure of the knockout matches begins.
