Indian football fans could soon have a rare treat in store, with reports suggesting that Brazil's national football team may play an international friendly in Kolkata as early as October 2026. According to the report, the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) is in advanced discussions with Indian sports organisers, and only final contractual formalities remain before the match is officially confirmed. The development has generated considerable excitement in Kolkata, a city with a long-standing emotional connection to Brazilian football.

Sources cited in the report indicate that Brazil is also considering additional home fixtures in 2027, with a particular focus on cities that are typically left off the national team's usual touring schedule. During the recently concluded FIFA World Cup, Kolkata's affection for Brazilian football was on full display, with murals of stars such as Neymar and Vinicius Junior appearing across the city, particularly in its northern neighborhoods. That enthusiasm appears to have factored into the ongoing negotiations for a potential visit.

Notably, organisers from Bangladesh, Singapore, and Qatar had also expressed interest in hosting a Brazilian friendly, but talks have progressed only with Indian organisers. The CBF is said to have turned down proposals for multiple matches within the region, citing concerns over the squad's travel schedule and recovery time between fixtures. As a result, negotiations with India have moved past the stage of competing bids and are now said to be in the final administrative and procedural phase ahead of a formal signing.
