BCCI responds to Rohit Sharma ODI retirement speculation.
BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla has dismissed speculation surrounding Rohit Sharma’s future in One Day International cricket, stating that there is “no question” of the star Indian batter retiring from international cricket at present. The clarification comes amid recent reports suggesting that the ODI series against England could have been Rohit’s final appearance in the format.
Shukla said Rohit remains an important part of the Indian cricket team and continues to play actively. Addressing media reports and social media discussions about the veteran opener’s future, he said such speculation had no basis and that the decision regarding players’ careers rests with the selectors and team management. He added that India’s current performances do not require any immediate changes in leadership or squad composition.
The retirement rumours gained attention after Rohit faced criticism following difficult outings in the opening matches of the ODI series against England. However, the experienced batter silenced doubts with a remarkable innings in the third ODI, scoring 138 runs off 110 deliveries. The century made him the first Indian batter to score an ODI hundred at Lord’s, further strengthening his reputation as one of the country’s greatest white-ball performers.
