BCCI Issues 7-Page Directive On IPL 2026 Scandals, Signals Possible Suspensions
BCCI may suspend IPL 2026 players over scandal crackdown
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has issued a strict new compliance advisory to all 10 Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises ahead of the 2026 season, introducing enhanced security protocols and warning of severe disciplinary action, including suspensions, for violations. The directive comes amid heightened concerns over player security, unauthorised access, and potential off-field risks in high-profile sporting environments.
In a detailed seven-page communication, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia outlined updated guidelines aimed at strengthening discipline and safeguarding players and officials. The board highlighted risks such as “targeted compromise” and “honey-trapping,” stressing that franchises must remain vigilant to prevent situations that could lead to legal or reputational consequences under applicable laws, including those related to misconduct.
According to the advisory, the BCCI and IPL Operations Team will conduct periodic and surprise inspections, including checks related to team hotel security arrangements. A dedicated task force comprising BCCI and IPL officials has also been formed to oversee implementation and ensure strict adherence to the protocols across all franchises.

The guidelines mandate that no outsider will be permitted to access a player or support staff member’s hotel room without prior approval from the team manager. Franchises have also been instructed to maintain detailed records of all guest visits and player movement logs, ensuring full accountability and traceability of interactions during the tournament.
Players and support staff have been directed to obtain clearance from designated security officials, including the Security Liaison Officer (SLO) and Team Integrity Officer (TIO), before leaving team hotels at any time. Any planned movement outside the team environment, whether for personal or recreational reasons, must be formally communicated and approved in advance.
The BCCI has warned that any breach of these protocols will be treated as a serious disciplinary offence. Penalties may include show-cause notices, financial fines, suspensions, or even disqualification from participation, depending on the severity of the violation. Franchises may also face proceedings under IPL regulations and BCCI rules.
Additionally, the board has cautioned franchise owners against engaging in communication with players or team management during live matches, reinforcing the separation between administrative roles and on-field operations. The BCCI stated that it reserves the right to conduct audits and inspections at any time to ensure compliance. The new framework signals one of the most stringent governance overhauls in IPL history, reflecting the board’s intent to tighten operational discipline and reinforce the league’s integrity ahead of the upcoming season.
