Barcelona Sign Anthony Gordon From Newcastle for €80 Million, Five-Year Deal
Gordon joins Barcelona on a five-year deal after scoring 17 goals for Newcastle.
FC Barcelona have completed the signing of Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United, with the transfer fee reportedly rising to as much as €80 million. The Spanish champions confirmed on Friday that the winger has signed a five-year contract that will keep him at the club until June 30, 2031.
The 25-year-old arrives in Catalonia after an impressive season with Newcastle United, where he scored 17 goals across all competitions, including 10 in the UEFA Champions League. Gordon finished as Newcastle’s top scorer and was widely regarded as one of the club’s most influential attacking players during the campaign.
Speaking after the announcement, Gordon described the move as the fulfillment of a lifelong ambition. The England international said playing for Barcelona had always been a dream and expressed enthusiasm about embracing the expectations and responsibility that come with representing one of football’s most successful clubs.

Barcelona views the signing as a key addition to their attacking options as the squad undergoes further transition. The club is preparing for the departure of veteran striker Robert Lewandowski at the end of his contract, while uncertainty also remains over the future of Marcus Rashford following his loan spell. Gordon’s arrival is expected to add pace, creativity, and goal-scoring ability to the forward line.
The transfer reflects Barcelona’s improved financial position after several years of strict spending controls. With the partial reopening of the club’s stadium and greater flexibility under La Liga’s financial regulations, the Catalan side has been able to return to the transfer market more aggressively while continuing to monitor additional targets.
For Newcastle United, Gordon’s departure represents one of the largest sales in the club’s history. Having joined from Everton in 2023, he leaves after helping establish Newcastle as a regular contender in European competition. The Premier League club is now expected to explore replacements as it prepares for the upcoming season without one of its leading attacking performers.
