Arsenal Beat Leverkusen 3-1 on Aggregate to Reach Champions League Last Eight
Arsenal beat Leverkusen 2-0 to advance on aggregate into the quarter-finals.
Arsenal F.C. booked their place in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League after a confident 2–0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen in the second leg of their last-16 tie on Tuesday. A spectacular first-half strike from Eberechi Eze and a composed finish by Declan Rice ensured the London side progressed with a 3–1 aggregate win at the Emirates Stadium. The result marked another strong European performance for Arsenal as they advanced to the Champions League quarter-finals for the third consecutive season.
Arsenal entered the match with momentum after securing a 1–1 draw in the first leg thanks to a late penalty from Kai Havertz. However, the return leg in London saw Mikel Arteta’s side deliver a far more dominant display. From the opening minutes, Arsenal pushed forward aggressively, forcing Leverkusen to defend deep as they attempted to withstand the hosts’ relentless pressure and attacking pace.
The breakthrough arrived in the 36th minute when Eberechi Eze produced a moment of brilliance. Collecting the ball near the edge of the penalty area, the midfielder turned sharply before unleashing a powerful long-range strike that flew into the top corner beyond goalkeeper Janis Blaswich. The goal was Eze’s first in the Champions League and marked a significant milestone in his debut European campaign with Arsenal following his move from Crystal Palace F.C..

Leverkusen attempted to recover after the break but struggled to break through Arsenal’s pressing and defensive organization. The home side doubled their lead in the 63rd minute when Declan Rice capitalized on possession won high up the pitch. Driving toward the edge of the box, the midfielder calmly slotted the ball past Blaswich to seal the victory and effectively end the German club’s hopes of staging a comeback.
The result sets up a quarter-final clash with Sporting CP, who advanced after overturning a significant first-leg deficit to defeat Bodø/Glimt 5–3 on aggregate. Arsenal will approach the encounter with confidence, having previously defeated Sporting convincingly during last season’s group stage campaign.
Beyond European competition, Arsenal remain firmly in contention on multiple fronts this season. The club sits nine points clear at the top of the Premier League and is preparing for a major domestic test against Manchester City F.C. in the upcoming EFL Cup Final at Wembley Stadium. With ambitions of ending a six-year trophy drought and chasing their first Champions League title since reaching the final in 2006, Arsenal’s impressive form suggests the club could be on the brink of one of its most memorable seasons in recent history.
