IPL 2025: Match-fixing Concerns Loom Again
BCCI increases vigil after shady Hyderabad businessman makes his moves
The talk of match-fixing, which had seen the banning of CSK and RR for two years (2016 and 2017), is once again in the air around the world's most popular T20 league.
But fret not. There is no real report of any player or franchise being involved in it. But a surreptitious presence of a dubious Hyderabad businessman, who is known to be part of the infamous betting syndicate, seems to have set the antenna up for the BCCI.
The BCCI, whose property is IPL, does not want any more problematic issues to dog the league and tarnish its reputation. In the event, the BCCI is said to have issued a no-nonsense warning to all stakeholders, including players, coaches, support staff, franchise owners, and commentators, urging vigilance and immediate reporting of any suspicious activity.

According to multiple media reports, the BCCI's Anti-Corruption Security Unit (ACSU) has told all-concerned to be wary of the businessman from Hyderabad, who it is feared is attempting to infiltrate IPL circles by befriending players, coaches, and even family members of franchise owners. Reports have it that the businessman has been offering expensive gifts, hosting lavish parties, and making indirect approaches through social media to gain trust and influence individuals connected to the league.
The ACSU has warned the players and franchises that silence or delayed reporting of any suspicious activity could compromise the league's anti-corruption framework. It is also said that the authorities have tightened security measures at team hotels, practice sessions, and match venues to limit interactions with unauthorised individuals. Regular briefings are being conducted to educate stakeholders about potential threats and appropriate responses.
The ACSU is also said to be working closely with law enforcement agencies to investigate the matter and prevent any breaches of integrity.
