FC Cincinnati Explore Neymar Transfer From Santos Ahead Of MLS Move

FC Cincinnati have opened talks to sign Neymar from Santos for a potential MLS move.

Major League Soccer side FC Cincinnati have initiated early discussions over a potential high-profile move for Brazilian forward Neymar, with reports indicating the club is exploring the feasibility of bringing the Santos star to the United States. According to ESPN, citing a source, the MLS outfit has begun internal evaluations and preliminary contact to assess whether the deal could be structured.

The report states that FC Cincinnati has reached out to representatives of the former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain attacker to gauge his interest in a possible switch to MLS. The conversations are understood to be in an exploratory stage, focusing on whether Neymar would be open to such a move and what type of financial arrangement would be required for a marquee signing of his profile. The Athletic has also reported Cincinnati’s interest in the 32-year-old forward.

Neymar is currently under contract with Santos until the end of 2026, having extended his stay by one year in December. Any potential transfer would therefore require complex negotiations, particularly given the financial demands associated with one of football’s most recognisable global stars. The structure of any potential MLS move, including designated player considerations, is expected to be a key part of ongoing discussions.

Sources suggest that any final decision regarding Neymar’s future is unlikely to be made until after the 2026 FIFA World Cup, regardless of whether he features for Brazil. The forward has not been called up to the national team since October 2023, though Brazil head coach Carlo Ancelotti has indicated he could still be considered if he returns to full fitness and form.

In recent weeks, Neymar has been managing fitness concerns, having missed matches for Santos due to a knee issue. He has reportedly undergone a minor knee procedure during the international break, with Santos coach Cuca stating the intention is to have him “raring to go” ahead of the World Cup period. So far in 2026, Neymar has made six appearances, scoring three goals and providing three assists.

Brazil’s most recent international window included a 2–1 defeat to France followed by a 3–1 win over Croatia in friendly matches, as the national team continues preparations for upcoming competitive fixtures and long-term squad planning.
