BCCI Selectors Told To Communicate With Forgotten India Pacer For 2027 World Cup

Former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has urged chief selector Ajit Agarkar and the BCCI selection panel to maintain communication with experienced pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar as India begins preparations for the 2027 ODI World Cup. Ashwin believes the veteran fast bowler could still be a valuable option for India's bowling plans, especially as the team looks to build a balanced attack for the marquee tournament. The 2027 World Cup is scheduled to begin in October in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia, giving teams more than a year to finalise their squads and combinations.

While discussions around India's batting order, including the future role of Rohit Sharma, have dominated conversations, Ashwin feels the bowling department requires closer attention. India's bowling attack has often relied heavily on premier fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah in recent years. Concerns have emerged over the team's effectiveness when Bumrah is unavailable, with questions being raised about finding reliable options who can handle pressure situations in major tournaments. In this context, Ashwin highlighted the importance of experienced players such as Bhuvneshwar Kumar.  The former India spinner suggested that selectors should engage with the pacer and understand his plans and availability rather than overlooking him completely.

However, Ashwin's comments do not indicate any official discussions between Bhuvneshwar and the BCCI or confirm his potential return to the national team. Bhuvneshwar has been one of India's most successful limited-overs fast bowlers, particularly known for his ability to swing the ball in the early overs and deliver effective variations during the death overs. Over the years, he played crucial roles for India across formats and became one of the team's most dependable white-ball bowlers. However, injuries and competition from younger pacers have affected his place in India's recent squads. The emergence of several fast-bowling options has made selection increasingly competitive, with the team management focusing on players who can contribute consistently across different conditions.
