BCCI Appoints Subhadeep Ghosh As India's New Fielding Coach Before Sri Lanka Tests

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to make a significant addition to the Indian men's cricket team's coaching setup, with former Assam and Railways cricketer Subhadeep Ghosh expected to be appointed as the new fielding coach. The appointment comes ahead of India's upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka and is part of the ongoing efforts to strengthen the support staff under head coach Gautam Gambhir. Ghosh will replace T Dilip, whose contract was not renewed following India's T20 International series against Zimbabwe. The move signals another change in the backroom team as India prepares for an important phase of international cricket.

Ghosh brings with him extensive coaching experience despite having enjoyed a modest domestic playing career. A former cricketer for Assam and Railways, he featured in 17 first-class matches between 1994 and 2004. Over the years, Ghosh has served in several important coaching roles that have contributed to his growing reputation. He also spent time at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), one of India's premier high-performance centres responsible for nurturing young cricketers and preparing them for international competition. His responsibilities at the NCA exposed him to some of the country's most promising talents and allowed him to work closely with elite coaching staff on technical and fitness-related aspects of the game.

Apart from his work in domestic cricket, Ghosh has also been associated with various national teams. His exposure to both men's and women's cricket has added versatility to his coaching profile, making him a suitable candidate for a role within the senior men's team.

Ghosh has also gained valuable experience in the Indian Premier League (IPL), where he has worked with franchises such as Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders. The IPL's fast-paced environment places significant emphasis on athleticism, catching efficiency and ground fielding, making fielding coaches an integral part of every team's success. His experience in the league has enabled him to work alongside international players, experienced coaches and support staff, giving him insights into the latest coaching techniques and performance analysis. Those experiences are expected to benefit the Indian team as it continues to place greater emphasis on fielding as a key component of success across formats.

The expected appointment comes at a time when the Indian men's team is continuing to shape its coaching structure under Gautam Gambhir. Since taking charge as head coach, Gambhir has overseen several changes within the support staff as the BCCI looks to build a long-term setup capable of maintaining India's competitiveness in international cricket.
