WPL 2026: “Clarity Around Roles Key to Our Success,” Says Smriti Mandhana as RCB Storms to Playoffs

Smriti Mandhana credits clear role definition and team depth for RCB's perfect start and playoff qualification in WPL 2026.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) Captain Smriti Mandhana has hailed the team’s clear role definitions and cohesive environment as pivotal to their dream start in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026. RCB has already secured a playoff berth after winning all five of their matches, becoming the first team to qualify.

Speaking about the campaign, Mandhana said, “It has been a great start, and we are pleased with our performances. Staying true to our processes, taking it one game at a time, and maintaining high morale has been crucial to our success.” She emphasised that every squad member has contributed, stepping up in critical moments to secure wins.

Mandhana reflected on the team culture, crediting the coaching staff and management for fostering an environment of intensity and belief. “There is strong trust within the group, and players are willing to give their all in training and matches alike. That has translated into consistent performances, from experienced players like Nadine de Klerk to young talents like Gautami,” she noted.

The captain also highlighted the significance of squad selection at the auction, stating that having multiple options and clarity around roles has been key to RCB’s consistent victories. She added that the team’s ability to close out matches, even under pressure, is a promising sign for the rest of the season.

Bowling depth has been a major factor behind the team’s dominance. Mandhana praised the impact of bowlers such as Nadine de Klerk, Lauren Bell, and Shreyanka Patil, while also acknowledging crucial contributions from Sayali, Arundhati, and Prema. This balance and depth across the squad, she said, gives the team confidence moving forward.

RCB will next face the Delhi Capitals at the BCA Stadium on Saturday, with Mandhana expressing optimism that the team’s structured approach and winning momentum will continue to drive them through the remainder of the tournament.
