Will RCB vs CSK Open IPL 2026? BCCI Set to Reveal Schedule by March 12
The BCCI releases the IPL 2026 schedule by March 12, with RCB vs CSK likely as the season opener.
The schedule for the 19th season of the Indian Premier League is expected to be released on March 12, according to Devajit Saikia. The Board of Control for Cricket in India will initially announce the fixtures for the first 20 days of the tournament, while the remaining schedule will be revealed later after election dates are confirmed.
The IPL 2026 season is expected to run from March 28 to May 31, slightly revised from the earlier tentative window of March 26 to May 30. Saikia said the governing body is finalising venue confirmations and logistical arrangements before announcing the opening phase of the tournament calendar. The decision to release the schedule in two phases has been taken to accommodate upcoming state assembly elections.
Reports suggest that the opening match of IPL 2026 could feature defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru taking on five-time winners Chennai Super Kings. If confirmed, the clash would be one of the most anticipated fixtures, given the massive fan following and rivalry between the two franchises.

The schedule planning has been influenced by assembly elections expected in Tamil Nadu, Assam, West Bengal and Kerala. Polling dates announced by the Election Commission of India will directly affect venue availability and security arrangements, leading the BCCI to adopt a phased approach for releasing fixtures.
Meanwhile, IPL franchises have already begun their pre-season preparations. Chennai Super Kings started training at their high-performance centre in Navalur with captain Ruturaj Gaikwad and veteran wicketkeeper MS Dhoni present. Reigning champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru also held a training camp earlier at DY Patil Stadium as teams gear up for another highly anticipated IPL season.
