Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's First IPL Golden Duck Against SRH Fuels Irfan Pathan's Theory

Sooryavanshi's golden duck against SRH reignites Irfan Pathan's controversial batting theory.

A social media post by former India cricketer Irfan Pathan has sparked widespread debate following young batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s first-ball dismissal in an IPL 2026 match between Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad. The 15-year-old sensation, who has impressed with fearless batting this season, was dismissed for a golden duck, leaving fans and analysts surprised given his recent performances against top-tier bowlers.

Sooryavanshi, who had earlier taken on elite pacers like Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Deepak Chahar with remarkable success, failed to replicate his aggressive approach against relatively lesser-known bowler Praful Hinge. Attempting an attacking shot on his very first delivery, the teenager was caught in the field, marking his first golden duck of the season and an unexpected setback in an otherwise stellar campaign.

Reacting to the dismissal, Pathan took to social media platform X and wrote, “So my theory for Vaibhav Sooryavanshi isn't wrong ;)”. The remark referred to an earlier observation where he suggested that the youngster tends to raise his game against high-profile bowlers but may approach lesser-known opponents differently. The comment quickly went viral, triggering mixed reactions from cricket fans and experts online.

Several users disagreed with Pathan’s assessment, arguing that Sooryavanshi’s aggressive mindset is consistent regardless of the bowler’s reputation. Many pointed out that the teenager’s approach is centred on quick scoring rather than selective targeting and that one dismissal should not define his playing pattern. The debate highlighted differing interpretations of the young batter’s style and temperament under pressure.

Meanwhile, the match also marked a memorable moment for Hinge, whose impactful spell put Rajasthan Royals on the back foot early. In the same over, he dismissed wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel for a duck and removed another batter soon after, reducing the team to a precarious position. His performance drew attention, especially considering his relatively low-profile entry into the tournament.

Despite the setback, Sooryavanshi remains one of the standout performers of the season, having previously delivered a blistering 78-run knock off just 26 balls against a strong bowling attack. The incident serves as a reminder of cricket’s unpredictability, where even the most promising talents face sudden challenges, while also fuelling ongoing discussions about consistency and strategy in high-pressure tournaments like the Indian Premier League.
