Sunil Gavaskar Predicts Pakistan U-Turn on T20 World Cup 2026 Clash Against India

Sunil Gavaskar mocks PCB's boycott of India T20 World Cup 2026 match, predicts U-turn like players' retirements.

Former India Captain Sunil Gavaskar has taken a sharp dig at Pakistan, mocking its repeated reversals on major sporting decisions while reacting to its stance on a possible boycott involving India. Gavaskar’s remarks come amid renewed debate over Pakistan’s position on participating in events that include India, an issue that has resurfaced multiple times in international cricket.

Speaking during a discussion on the matter, Gavaskar said Pakistan was “known to make U-turns,” suggesting that strong public positions taken initially are often softened or reversed later. His comments were widely interpreted as a reference to Pakistan’s past statements on boycotting tournaments or bilateral engagements with India, many of which eventually gave way to participation under international pressure or practical considerations.

The former opener pointed out that global cricketing events are governed by international bodies, leaving individual boards with limited room to act unilaterally without consequences. He indicated that while political messaging may dominate early rhetoric, financial realities and international commitments often play a decisive role in final decisions.

Gavaskar’s remarks echo a broader sentiment within the cricketing community that sport, particularly global tournaments, cannot be easily disentangled from commercial and competitive imperatives. Broadcasters, sponsors and international cricket councils, he noted indirectly, expect full participation from member nations to maintain the integrity and viability of major events.

The India–Pakistan cricket dynamic has long been shaped by political tensions, with bilateral series suspended for years. However, the two teams continue to face each other in multi-nation tournaments, where matches draw massive global viewership and generate significant revenue.

As discussions continue around future tournaments, Gavaskar’s comments have added to the debate by highlighting what he sees as a pattern in Pakistan’s approach. While no final decisions have been announced, the episode once again underscores how cricket between the two rivals remains closely watched, both on and off the field.
