Sooryavanshi Hits Third-Fastest IPL Fifty, Shares “Secret” Diet Before Match

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi hits 15-ball IPL fifty, credits pre-match sweet.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi lit up the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 in Rajasthan Royals’ first match against Chennai Super Kings in Guwahati, smashing a 15-ball half-century—the third fastest in IPL history—during a 128-run chase. The teenage sensation’s explosive knock helped RR chase down the target in just 12.1 overs, leaving fans and commentators in awe. After the match, Sooryavanshi humorously revealed his pre-match “secret diet,” saying he had eaten Rajbhog mithai, a traditional sweet, before taking the field.

The 15-year-old prodigy, dropped for nought initially, raced to 52 runs off just 15 balls, including four boundaries and five sixes, taking RR to 74 without loss in the Powerplay. Though he was dismissed shortly after, his rapid scoring effectively sealed the early momentum for the Royals and set the tone for their dominant eight-wicket win.

Former India coach Sanjay Bangar praised Sooryavanshi’s fearless approach, highlighting how the youngster dominated quality bowlers. “At the age of 15, he took on Matt Henry, Khaleel Ahmed, Anshul Kamboj, and even mystery bowler Noor Ahmad. He forced them away from their strengths, putting pressure on all of them. That shows Vaibhav is getting into the minds of established bowlers,” Bangar said, predicting a blockbuster season for the teenager.

Bangar emphasized that Sooryavanshi’s ability to adjust to different types of deliveries, while maintaining aggressive intent, demonstrated a rare combination of skill and maturity. “Henry had to bowl slower balls. Khaleel had to try different things. His fearless approach and mental clarity at this age is remarkable,” Bangar added, praising the young player’s game awareness.

Former India wicketkeeper Saba Karim also lauded Sooryavanshi, noting the blend of aggression and growing tactical wisdom in his innings. “He showed maturity in targeting the right deliveries while maintaining a strike rate above 250. One can sense a kind of wisdom in the way he executes shots, even while playing aggressively against both pace and spin,” Karim said.

With this sensational start, Sooryavanshi has firmly positioned himself as one of IPL 2026’s most exciting young talents. Fans and analysts alike are now watching closely as he looks to build on this extraordinary performance and deliver more fireworks for Rajasthan Royals in the upcoming matches.
