Shubman Gill's Clutch Century Breaks 4 IPL Records in Qualifier 2

Shubman Gill delivered a captain's knock for Gujarat Titans in IPL 2026 Qualifier 2, smashing 104 off 53 balls to guide his side to a seven-wicket victory over Rajasthan Royals. Chasing 215, Gill led from the front as Gujarat completed the chase with eight balls remaining and secured a place in the IPL 2026 final.

The century proved historic for Gill, who became the first captain in IPL playoff history to score a hundred. The innings also marked his fifth IPL century and saw him break multiple tournament records. Among the milestones achieved were the fastest century in IPL playoff history, the fastest hundred by a Gujarat Titans batter, and the first playoff century by an IPL captain.

Gill also became the first batter to register multiple centuries in IPL playoff matches. His remarkable consistency continued as he crossed the 700-run mark for the season, becoming only the fourth player in IPL history to record two separate 700-plus run campaigns. He joined an elite list featuring Virat Kohli, Chris Gayle, and Sai Sudharsan.

The opening partnership between Gill and Sudharsan played a decisive role in the chase. The duo added 167 runs in just 12.5 overs before Sudharsan was dismissed. Their stand became the highest partnership in IPL playoff history, surpassing the previous record of 159 runs set by Michael Hussey and Murali Vijay in the 2011 final.

Gill and Sudharsan also set a new benchmark in T20 cricket by registering their 11th century partnership, overtaking the previous record of 10 held by Chris Gayle and Virat Kohli. With the record-breaking victory, Gujarat Titans now head into the IPL 2026 final carrying strong momentum, while Gill's latest masterclass further strengthened his status as one of the tournament's premier performers.
