Shedge's Explosive 57 Rescued PBKS in IPL 2026 Despite GT Defeat
Suryansh Shedge impresses with 57 in IPL 2026 despite Punjab Kings defeat.
Despite Punjab Kings’ defeat to Gujarat Titans, 23-year-old batter Suryansh Shedge emerged as a standout performer, delivering a crucial innings that helped his side recover from an early collapse. His counterattacking knock provided stability and momentum at a time when the team was struggling, underlining his growing reputation as a dependable finisher in the lower order.
Punjab Kings, one of the most consistent teams this season, found themselves in unfamiliar territory after their top and middle order faltered, slipping to 36 for 4. The early setbacks exposed vulnerabilities in the batting lineup, placing pressure on the lower order to rebuild and post a competitive total against Gujarat Titans.
Coming in during a crisis and playing only his second match of the season, Shedge quickly adapted to the situation. He first focused on stabilising the innings before shifting gears, particularly targeting Manav Suthar in a decisive over where he struck three sixes and two fours. His aggressive stroke play injected much-needed momentum into the innings and lifted the team from a precarious position.

Shedge eventually scored 57 runs off 29 balls, including three fours and five sixes, before being dismissed on the final ball of the 16th over by Kagiso Rabada. His dismissal at a critical juncture halted Punjab Kings’ progress, and the team finished with 163 for 9. While the total proved competitive, it ultimately fell short of being match-winning.
Reflecting on his performance, Shedge emphasized the importance of preparation over waiting for opportunities. He credited guidance from head coach Ricky Ponting and captain Shreyas Iyer, noting that both had consistently encouraged him to stay ready. He said his time on the sidelines allowed him to prepare both physically and mentally, enabling him to make an impact when called upon.
Although Punjab Kings could not secure a victory, Shedge’s innings stood out as a key positive. His performance not only showcased his ability to handle pressure situations but also highlighted his potential role as a finisher, offering the team greater depth and resilience in future matches.
