Sehwag Tells Selectors to Bring Back Bhuvneshwar Kumar for India T20 Team

Virender Sehwag has urged BCCI selectors to consider Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s return to the Indian team.

Former India cricketer Virender Sehwag has called on the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) selection committee to consider a comeback for experienced pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar, following his impressive performances in IPL 2026. Sehwag’s comments have reignited discussions around India’s fast-bowling options in the T20 format, especially as the tournament continues to highlight strong performances from veteran players.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar, representing Royal Challengers Bengaluru, has been in excellent form this season, picking up 17 wickets in just nine matches. The 36-year-old pacer, who has not played international cricket for over three years, has impressed with his control, swing, and consistency. His resurgence in the IPL has led to renewed calls from experts and fans for a potential return to the national side.

Speaking on the possibility of a comeback, Sehwag stressed that age should not be the deciding factor if a player is performing at a high level. He suggested that the selectors should seriously evaluate Bhuvneshwar’s current form and consider how he could fit into India’s T20 plans. Sehwag also pointed to the past success of the bowling partnership between Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah, hinting at the possibility of reviving that combination.

The remarks come at a time when India’s T20 squad is under constant review due to the evolving demands of the format. While younger pacers continue to emerge, the strong IPL performances of experienced players like Bhuvneshwar have added complexity to selection discussions. Whether the selectors respond to Sehwag’s suggestion remains to be seen, but the debate over balancing youth and experience in Indian cricket is once again in focus.
