Sehwag Issues Mitchell Marsh Warning To Shreyas Iyer Ahead Of IPL 2026 Clash
Sehwag warns Iyer about Mitchell Marsh ahead IPL 2026 clash
Punjab Kings find themselves in a high-pressure situation ahead of their final league-stage match in IPL 2026, with qualification for the playoffs hanging by a thread. With 13 points from 13 matches, Shreyas Iyer’s side must defeat Lucknow Super Giants on Saturday to keep their hopes alive, but even a win may not guarantee progression depending on other results involving Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals.
The team’s campaign has followed a dramatic arc, beginning with six consecutive victories that positioned them as early playoff favourites. However, a severe dip in form followed, with Punjab Kings losing their next six matches, leaving their season on the edge of collapse heading into the decisive fixture.
Ahead of the must-win clash, former India opener Virender Sehwag issued a sharp assessment of Punjab’s challenges, pointing particularly to their bowling vulnerabilities. Speaking on JioStar, Sehwag warned that Lucknow Super Giants batter Mitchell Marsh could pose a significant threat, especially in the powerplay where he has been in strong form.

Sehwag noted that Punjab’s bowling attack has lacked consistency in the middle overs, a weakness that has been exposed repeatedly during their losing streak. He suggested that Marsh’s ability to read length early and attack aggressively could further test Punjab’s fragile bowling unit in a high-stakes encounter.
The former cricketer also pointed out that while Lucknow Super Giants are already out of playoff contention, they remain a dangerous side due to their batting depth and freedom from pressure, making them potential spoilers in the race for the top four. He added that venue conditions and a shift in mindset could play a role, though execution under pressure would ultimately decide Punjab’s fate.
Despite recent setbacks, Sehwag acknowledged Punjab Kings’ strong start to the season and expressed hope that they could still turn things around. However, with momentum firmly against them and qualification scenarios dependent on multiple results, their final league match has effectively become a knockout contest.
