Ruturaj Gaikwad took full responsibility for Chennai Super Kings’ defeat to Royal Challengers Bengaluru, admitting that his side fell short in execution after suffering a comprehensive 43-run loss in their IPL 2026 clash at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
Speaking after the match, the CSK captain did not shy away from criticism, stating, “It’s on me,” as he reflected on the team’s performance. Gaikwad acknowledged that the side failed to capitalise on key moments, particularly during the chase, which ultimately cost them the game.
CSK were chasing a challenging total set by RCB, but their innings never gained sustained momentum. Early wickets and an inability to build partnerships left the batting unit under pressure, with the required run rate climbing steadily beyond reach. Gaikwad admitted that the team’s approach could have been better, especially in handling the middle overs.
