RR Meets GT in Qualifier 2; Royals Seek First Victory Against Titans Since 2022 IPL Season
Rajasthan Royals face Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 2, seeking to overcome their 2022 playoff heartbreak.
Rajasthan Royals will look to end their painful playoff history against Gujarat Titans when the two sides face off in Qualifier 2 of the Indian Premier League 2026 on Friday at the New Chandigarh Stadium. The winner of the high-stakes encounter will secure a place in the IPL final against defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru, setting the stage for one of the most anticipated knockout matches of the season.
The clash carries added significance because of Gujarat Titans’ dominance over Rajasthan Royals in previous IPL playoff meetings. During Gujarat’s debut IPL season in 2022, the Titans defeated Rajasthan in Qualifier 1 before once again overcoming them in the final to clinch the title. Gujarat won all three encounters against Rajasthan that season and has continued to maintain a strong overall record in the rivalry, leading the head-to-head tally 7-3 since entering the tournament.
Both teams enter the contest with momentum and balanced squads. Rajasthan Royals advanced after a commanding 47-run victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Eliminator, where Jofra Archer delivered a match-winning spell against SRH’s explosive top order. Gujarat Titans, led by Shubman Gill, had earlier registered a dominant 77-run win over Rajasthan during the league stage this season, underlining the challenge awaiting the Royals in the knockout fixture.

The match is also expected to influence the race for the tournament’s top individual honors. Rajasthan’s teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Gujarat opener Sai Sudharsan remain among the leading contenders for the Orange Cap after prolific campaigns with the bat. Meanwhile, Gujarat pacer Kagiso Rabada and Rajasthan fast bowler Jofra Archer are competing closely in the Purple Cap standings, adding another layer of intrigue to the contest between two of the season’s strongest bowling attacks.
Rajasthan Royals will once again rely heavily on the aggressive batting of 15-year-old Sooryavanshi, who has emerged as one of the breakout stars of IPL 2026. The youngster has scored 680 runs at a strike rate exceeding 240 and has formed a formidable opening partnership with Yashasvi Jaiswal. The duo recently broke a long-standing IPL record held by Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir by becoming the fastest Indian pair to cross 500 partnership runs in tournament history.
With experienced middle-order players such as Dhruv Jurel, Donovan Ferreira, and captain Riyan Parag providing additional stability, Rajasthan Royals believe they have the depth required to challenge Gujarat’s powerful lineup and finally erase memories of their earlier playoff defeats. For Rajasthan, the match also represents an opportunity to move closer to a long-awaited second IPL title, nearly two decades after their only championship triumph under the late Shane Warne in the inaugural 2008 season.
