RCB’s Victory Parade Mismanagement Sparks Deadly Bengaluru Stampede

A Karnataka government report to the High Court has blamed Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) for a devastating stampede on June 4, 2025, that resulted in 11 deaths and over 50 injuries during celebrations following RCB’s first IPL victory in 18 years. Released publicly despite the state’s request for confidentiality, the report criticizes RCB for organizing a victory parade to Chinnaswamy Stadium without proper police authorization, leading to a chaotic gathering of over 3,00,000 people.
The report states RCB informed police on June 3 about a potential parade but failed to submit a formal permission request, mandatory seven days prior. On June 4, RCB’s social media posts at 7:01 am announced free entry to the parade from Vidhana Soudha to Chinnaswamy Stadium, followed by a video from Virat Kohli inviting fans to join. A 3:14 pm post introduced limited passes, causing confusion among the massive crowd, far exceeding the stadium’s 35,000 capacity.
With 44 lakh views on RCB’s posts, the report notes poor gate management led to stampedes at multiple entry points. Police avoided canceling the event to prevent riots but curtailed its duration. The report faults RCB’s lack of planning and communication with authorities for the tragedy.
