RCB Star Reveals Virat Kohli’s Unexpected Side, Calls IPL 2026 Stint Life-Changing

RCB player reveals Virat Kohli’s impact during IPL 2026 was life-changing.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) wicketkeeper-batter Jordan Cox has spoken about the profound impact his brief stint in the Indian Premier League (IPL) has had on his career, describing the experience as “life-changing” despite not featuring in the playing XI during the 2026 season. Cox was part of RCB’s title-winning squad and remained with the team throughout the campaign, largely contributing as a substitute fielder.

The England cricketer also highlighted the influence of senior RCB star Virat Kohli, saying the former India captain had a far greater impact on him than he had expected. Cox revealed that Kohli actively shared insights and guidance with younger players in the squad, offering detailed input drawn from his extensive international experience. According to Cox, this willingness to mentor stood out as one of the most unexpected aspects of his time in the franchise.

Speaking in an interview with ESPNcricinfo, Cox said that spending time in the IPL environment exposed him to the highest level of T20 cricket and offered lessons he would not have gained elsewhere. He noted that even without match time, being part of the dressing room and training sessions with elite players provided valuable exposure to the demands and standards of the competition.

Cox also described the IPL as the “marquee competition in the world,” acknowledging its global stature and the quality of talent it attracts. While reaffirming his long-term ambition to focus on Test cricket, he said the opportunity to be part of an IPL squad was too significant to turn down, calling it a “dream come true” in his professional journey.

A notable highlight of Cox’s experience was training alongside Kohli in the nets, which he described as a particularly memorable aspect of the season. He said these interactions gave him practical insights into preparation, mindset, and game awareness at the highest level of the sport.

Although he did not play any official matches during the tournament, Cox’s role as a squad member and substitute fielder allowed him to remain closely involved in matchday setups. His reflections have added to ongoing discussions about the IPL’s influence on international players and its role in shaping modern cricket careers, particularly for younger cricketers seeking exposure at the top level.
