RCB Invests Rs 7 Crore In AI Systems, Infrastructure at Chinnaswamy Stadium

Franchise upgrades safety systems after fatal crowd incident.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru has announced an investment of nearly ₹7 crore to strengthen crowd management infrastructure at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, following a tragic stampede incident in 2025 that claimed 11 lives during the team’s IPL victory celebrations. The move comes ahead of the upcoming Indian Premier League 2026 season, where the franchise is scheduled to host multiple matches at the venue.

Speaking at a pre-season press conference, RCB CEO Rajesh Menon said the investment has been directed towards upgrading safety systems and ensuring a smoother match-day experience for fans. Key improvements include the installation of multiple baggage scanners, enhanced surveillance systems, and the establishment of dedicated command centres to monitor crowd movement effectively.

A major technological upgrade includes the deployment of AI-powered CCTV systems across the stadium premises. The system, powered by an internal tool named “Jarvis,” will provide real-time alerts, including stand-specific crowd density tracking. According to Menon, these feeds will also be accessible to the city police commissioner’s office, enabling authorities to monitor situations live and respond promptly to potential risks.

The enhancements follow revised safety protocols and guidelines issued by the Karnataka government and the High Court after the June 4, 2025 incident. Menon stated that both RCB and the Karnataka State Cricket Association have worked extensively to comply with the mandated standard operating procedures, including emergency response planning and crowd control measures.

Under a newly structured agreement, the KSCA will now act as the lead organiser for matches, sharing responsibilities with the franchise. This marks a shift from the earlier arrangement where RCB was solely responsible for event management, with the state association serving primarily as the venue provider. The updated framework also includes specific guidelines for large-scale events such as victory parades.

Additional measures include redesigned entry and exit points to streamline fan movement, early opening of stadium gates four hours before matches, and integrated transport solutions such as metro access for ticket holders. With five home matches scheduled this season, RCB has emphasised that the upgraded infrastructure aims to prioritise fan safety while maintaining an efficient and enjoyable stadium experience.
